Guest Comments

Garden Cottage offers an excellent standard of self catering holiday accommodation in a superb location near St Andrews in Fife. Here is a selection of comments taken from our guest book.

  • Margo - Thank you so much for lending us your wonderful cottage at Kinloss Farms. I may have explained that we were trying a new sort of vacation for us&one focused on living like locals rather then time focused on touristy activities such as sight seeing. While we did some exploring and sight seeing - we mostly just enjoyed being in Fife and Cupar and at the cottage.

I'm happy to report our experiment was a success! The cottage was so easy to stay in and we came to love it's little quirks. It was cozy, comfortable, and a great place to host occasional guests (can kids be considered guests?). We got to know local businesses like Ostlers Close (Jimmy and Amanda are great), Luvians (I think we went in there too often&) and Fisher & Donaldsons. We played many fun rounds of local golf - staying clear of the big courses and concentrating on the smaller local options such as Elmwood and Scotscraig. We even got where we could pretty well navigate through Fife without a map or GPS!

We came to really like the Kingaroch Inn and ate there several times. We also went to Falkland four times - once to tour and three time to eat. What a lovely village!

And the joy of living for four weeks on your delightful farm. We all agreed we slept extremely well due to the pleasant quiet of the surroundings. We liked watching the different groups of chickens cross our front yard every day - they each had their ritual we could see. We loved the guinea fowl and their ridiculous squawks when riled up about something. And your cows - well, we loved them. We did manage to coax them to the gate one evening and my kids got to experience them close-up.

Im thinking: meat pies from the butcher in Ceres, donuts at Greggs or F&D, scotch at Luvians, golf at Elmwood, dinner at Ostlers or the Kingaroch Inn. Just so wonderful. I havent even mentioned The Open which was the best golfing event Ive ever attended - and Ive been to all the majors and plenty of others.

Thanks so much. We loved the cottage (and your beautiful, super-friendly pups) and would enjoy a return some day!

  • "Best rental ever."
We stayed at the garden cottage for a week. It is a beautiful, homey, welcoming place to stay and vacation. Margo was very prompt with her email replies when we were inquiring about renting. She is very professional and personal at the same time. There was flexibility in regards to our arrival and departure. They provided accurate directions and great ideas for things to do in the area. The cottage was clean, the shower had hot water with great pressure. They provided a welcome package of kitchen goodies to start us out. We had a wonderful time using the tennis court, as well as sauntering into town for a coffee and snack. Cupar is a great little town to visit, and the garden cottage is a must. We are already talking about coming all the way back from Canada again sometime to stay here again.

  • "Cosy Cottage"
The cottage is very cosy and nicely furnished. A beautiful secluded setting but just minutes from Cupar centre and well placed for exploration of Fife and the surrounding area. We'll certainly be back.

  • The Cottage Home was the very first property I found when I began searching for a place to stay in Scotland. We were planning our golf vacation of a lifetime so we wanted everything to be perfect. I searched through literally hundreds of other options and kept coming back to this Cottage Home. When we arrived, everything was like the pictures...only better. Getting to the cottage, located in Cupar (just outside St. Andrews) was as much fun as staying there. You leave the main road and enter the farm property and proceed down a private road, dense with trees, ponds, farm animals and acres and acres of barley. We entered the cottage to the smell of home baked wholemeal bread, fresh eggs, fresh fruit, milk, juice, and a nice bottle of wine. We were sold. Our golf trip was perfect. The golf courses we played will provide a lifetime of memories. And the cottage we stayed in for one week, was better than we could ever have hoped for.

  • A lovely cosy cottage in peaceful surroundings and excellent location for visiting St Andrews. We found the cottage a real home from home with many lovely extra touches such as flowers, fresh eggs from the chickens and a welcome pack. The basket of children's activities books was a big hit with the kids! The cottage has very comfortable beds and a nice powerful shower. The open fire was nice to come home to at the end of the day and we enjoyed using the tennis court. We had a really relaxing week and our 3 young children loved the cottage. We would not hesitate to go back.

  • Our family chose this sweet cottage because we thought it would be a retreat for us at the end of a busy sightseeing day. It served it's purpose! We relaxed when we walked in the door. The beds were cozy, the seating was comfortable and the scenery was serene. Walking the grounds in the morning and greeting the chickens, the horses and cattle was a happy start before driving off to St. Andrews or Edinburgh. We enjoyed Cupar, too, as we found some favorite stores and restaurants. We have shared this sweet spot with other families in the US who want to travel to Scotland because we loved it so!

  • This has been a haven for a week of sorely needed rest and recuperation. Weather was mixed and some early morning wake-ups with our friend the crwo knocking on the window! But a lovely place.

  • We have thoroughly enjoyed a very relaxing time here in this lovely characterful comfortable and cosy cottage. Many thanks indeed for the beautiful fresh roses and very generous welcome goodies. Thanks too for help with the TV. This has been a special place to watch some of the Olympics in the evening. Sorry to be leaving......

  • A terrific and relaxing week - very comfortable cottage - welcome pack much appreciated. ST Andrews several times for nostalgic reasons - as beautiful as ever - sailing at Elie, golf at Cupar, tennis here! Kellie Castle. It's all gone far too quickly and we were lucky with the weather - there was much less rain than forecast. Many thanks!!

  • We had 4 wonderful days in this beautiful cottage. Booking went very smooth and easy thanks to Margo, who was always patient and quick in reply. Cottage has everything you need, gives you the feeling of a time travel to the past. Period features add to this feeling. Comfy for 4. Could be a bit chilly on colder days in summer, but hey, that's what gives you even more the traditional feeling! Easy access to Cupar for shopping. Car definitely needed. Will definitely return as it is an excellent base for exploring Fife and beyond.
